Céide
Fields
18" x 24"
- Oil on Canvas - framed - € 3000 (Kenny Gallery, Galway)
| This
painting was inspired by a visit to the Céide
Fields in County Mayo, the 5,000 year old remnants of the stone walls,
houses, and megalithic tombs of a farming community preserved beneath an
eight foot blanket of peat. These ancient fields are organized in
the same way that can be seen across Ireland to this day.
In this painting the fields are arrayed in a symbolic Celtic pattern, and watched over by Anu, the greatest of all Irish goddesses, the deity of cattle, health, fertility, prosperity, and comfort. |
