On the north shore of the Dingle penninsula at the end of a narrow road sits the little cove, sheltered between towering cliff walls, from which St. Brendan sailed on his 6th century voyage of discovery to among other places (dare we say it?) North America. This old winch sits on the quay, rusted but by the look of the cable, still occassionally used to haul boats up onto the concrete ramp. At the top of the winding drive down to the quay there is a monument to Brendan, Patron Saint of Mariners.
